It Happened Again...

Exactly two weeks from the date of her losing her first tooth, the second one has made an exit as well!
I recall brushing her teeth that morning, noticing how wiggly it had got.
And then, just like it happened two weeks prior, when I appeared in her daycare room at the end of the day she came running at me with a huge slightly-toothless smile!  Holy doodle!
If this is the pace at which my girl will hit milestones and all things "big girl" can I please press the slow down button???   I mean, come on kindergarden is just around the corner.......
she looks incredibly similar to "little me" in these two big smile photos.
Luckily though, on this night we were prepared for the Tooth Fairy to come.
With a quick letter drafted after dinner and the hanging up of our tooth pillow, the scene was set for magic to happen once again.
And it did!
The very next morning.....
....someone had left evidence of a mid-night visit and a pick-up/drop off exchange.

Wow Kamille!
I'm back again!  That was fast!  I 'm impressed that you pulled this wiggly tooth out all on your own!  Take care of those big teeth that will be growing in!  xo The Tooth Fairy
~two shiny coins for your second tooth~
One super happy girl.
So what does she plan to do with her new loot?
She says she's going to add it to the twoonie she received two weeks ago and save it until she loses her top two teeth.  Then she wants to use her money to buy ice cream.  ; )
Sounds like a great plan to me!

A Dad And His Girls

If you give Kevin a big ol' piece of reclaimed wood from a pile of junk, he's gonna work some magic.
 He'll measure twice, cut once.
Happily take out the big toys to play with.....
and make himself a bench that pleases him just so!
It was Father's Day and all Kevin wanted to do was create.
I love this about him.
He's got a love for doing, creating, figuring out, and making work.
And he even measured the height so that my BOGS fit under there just perfectly!
Apparently he also re-straightened these old 6" nails to make it all happen.
Kevin once said to me, "If the ladies don't find you handsome, at least they'll find you handy."
Well, I love me some handsome handyman, Kevin.
Thank you for your talent and creative ideas.  We love our new bench!  xo

Later that afternoon, once idea #1 one was checked off, Kevin moved onto idea #2 - extend the back deck.   You see, our deck is like 5 feet deep.  Its small, but so too is our backyard.  Our back yard is all of maybe 10 feet deep from the edge of our deck.  So Kevin has taken on the task of making it bigger.  He and his boys took off the large sheets of glass that lined the deck to prepare for the task.

Later that night after his Father's Day steak dinner, (seasoned with BBQ spice that the girls had made for him with love at daycare), he and the girls went out to check out the plans.
What's that you say?
You see bear poop?
We've had bears under our front porch attacking our garbage cans, we've had bears poop on our front driveway - all at night when we're not aware, but on this particular day, within 45 minutes of Kevin and his friends taking the glass off the deck, a bear made its way into our backyard from the trail behind and pooped on our grass.  Not a big poop, but one full of berries from the trails.
It was a bit strange to think that the guys were just inside the back door and a bear hunkered down without them noticing.  Not to self: kids do not run around back there without me!  You never know what they might run into!
The girls just adore their Daddy.
He is just the perfect amount of fun for our girls.
And just the right amount of gentle for them as well.

Its funny to think back to the time before we had our girls and we would have both considered the possibility of having little boys in our life.   Having two little girls was certainly not what I would have predicted, and I once thought it would have been great for Kevin to have a son, but now I know it makes no difference.  He is the Daddy of two little girls - and a darn good dad too!

On Father's Day that is what we celebrated - his capacity to love, share, explore, play, show, tell, teach and be just right for our girls.

Our girls are so lucky to have such a great man in their life!
Happy Father's Day Kevin! xo

Krazy Hair Karis!

Its just a known fact - Karis has krazy hair.
She loves it.
We love it.
And others love it, or perhaps others just think that I neglect to brush her hair from day to day.  Not sure.

She calls it kay-see hair.
And its crazy because its so many different lengths all over her head, and straight, curly or wavey in places too.

Not quite what I would expect, given that Kamille's hair just grew straight and long from the minute she was born.

However, if you saw my hair without the aid of a hair dryer you would likely call me, Krazy Hair Kristin.  My hair isn't exactly wash-and-go capable like Kamille's is.  Karis definitely gets her wave and kinks from me.

However, at just over two and a half years old, Karis' hair (in most parts) has grown to a length that could use a hair cut to help it out a little.
Yes, for the sake of capturing the krazy in these photos, I did not brush out her mop.  Honestly though, it does look better without the brush because you are less able to see the long here, short there, and baby hair under there nature of it all.
 Short short short under there.....
Straight and long here, curly over there....
Baby hair bangs that have started to grow a bit longer!
Oh, this girl makes me laugh...especially after she rolls out of bed.

Those ringlets that she gets are super awesome in the humid heat of Ontario or Mexico, or when the weather is damp here.
But last week, we opted to make some changes to the krazy hair.
We made an appointment at a local hair salon and took some last photos of the kraze.

Checkin' herself out in the mirror.
She might have mistaken herself for a lion with that big mane framing her face!  Grrrrrr!
It was time to tame that mane!
 short, long, short, long....
Are you ready to do this Karis?

Kamille was at her craft group, so it was a special date for just the two of us!
We met our stylist and without hesitation she was sitting expression-less in the boosted seat.
all brushed out and ready to be sprayed down!
Yes, I was totally that Mom, snapping away.
Karis was fascinated by the fact that her stylist's scissors were looped onto her fingers the whole time!  She kept wanting to look at her hand.
not sure what type of customer she is just yet, satisfied or not?  hmmmm??
Checking to make sure the sides are even.
 almost done......
We thought about doing bangs, but the stylist said they might get a little crazy with all the wave that she already had.  Nuff said.  We've done the crazy thing already.
Karis loves it when I blow her with my blow dryer each morning and so she finally cracked a smile when I gave her stylist permmission to blow away!
Ta - da!
Sleek and smooth and cut nicely across the back to even out some of the long with the short!
 Goodbye Krazy.....
 Hello Fancy!
In the end, all she really cared about was the pink sucker. ; )
What fun this was for me.  As I've written before about myself, I am a bit of a hair salon lover and trying out new hair!

I look forward to seeing how this will help out with being able to do stuff with her hair in the coming months.  Even just brushing it out looks so much better and even across the back.
However, my favourite look on her is still the way she looks when she wakes up in the morning.  Baby lion mane, for sure!
Ok, ok, I'll admit it, I'm still not brushing it much these days anyway!  I can't resist the Krazy!  xo
