Kevin's in China again....

So Kevin is in China again.  He hasn't been since Kamille's first year so he was psyched about this great opportunity to work there for another 2 weeks.  So, I'm used to him being gone for 2-4 nights every week, but managing "12 sleeps" and now with 2 kids, I was a bit nervous going into it but we are really doing well as Team K3 Girls!  (Can I say that a trip to Costco for new bathroom towels set me off on the right foot!?  I love my new towels!)  Despite some frustrating times with Kamille and needing to remember to not sweat the small stuff, I've got it all dialed!

This trip is different for Kamille.  She was pretty perceptive and knew that this wasn't just a usual weekly trip and for the first couple days she was a bit off and totally missed Kev.  Poor thing.  She is just such a daddy's girl.  I do love it, but when she wants Daddy there isn't much that I can do to move her out of that head space.
I've always said that Kevin being away during the week is a good thing; I like my space, I like to be the Queen in the house and do things all my way, but when it stretches out over the weekends and for longer than a week, I do miss our Daddy being around.

4 more sleeps!

This is Kamille and Kevin sharing the experience of the Canadian Men's Hockey team winning GOLD today.  Kevin was 'webcamming' from Beijing!

Books, Books, Books!

Today we ventured off to the library or "libelly" as Kamille used to call it.  The library is one of those places that when I am there I always think, "why don't we go here more often."  I love looking at all the kids books.  We usually pick a spot in one if the aisles and just start pulling books out.  Kamille gets so excited and just pulls anything and says "I like this one."  And I must admit, I do judge a book by its cover or how cute the illustrations are so I usually try to sway her to another "cuter" looking book!

At home, books are Kamille's most favourite thing.  She can sit for quite a while reading books to herself and to Karis.  Right now her favourite thing to read is her mini Stella books.  I have read them an bunch of times to her and she when she reads I can hear her making up stories but always saying "said Stella" or "asked Sam." Its so funny that she can string a sentence like, "Stella said,  I like the snow too Sam, asked Stella."  So funny!

My favourite thing is when Kamille reads to Karis. It is so cute.  Karis watches her turn the pages.
She is such a great big sister!

And she loves to read to her babies.  She holds the book up for them, like she is the teacher; making sure that everyone can see the pages!  Priceless!
The best part about Kamille's love for reading is that it buys me some time to do things like sleep in or get a work-out in.  In the morning when she crawls into our bed around 5:30 or 6 and she announces that  "the dark is all gone," we can usually ask her go to her room and do some reading and that seems to be just fine for her.  During the day during "nap" time, I am lucky if she sleeps, but give her some books and she is consumed and happy to stay in her room for a while!  ; )  LOVE IT!

With that said, I am not sure where she gets this big love of books and reading.  I am not much of a reader, never have been, but I wish that I was.  I am really really looking forward to reading my Little House on the Prairie books for Kamille at night before bed.  How cute is that!  Its so great that she loves books!

Goodbye Diary, Hello Blog!

Wow, I am here ...in a blog! I have been inspired to start blogging by Jill. Jill has had a great blog going for a while and I have recently been reintroduced to it when Kingsley was born. The fact that is fun to look at, has pictures and is easy to update makes me think that I can now - possibly - give up the paper trail of my life and say goodbye to my diaries.

I have kept a diary since I was 8 years old. Some years have more notes than others, and each year is a different type of format, be it a book, calendar or note pad, depending on where I was in life.

For the past 3 years my diaries have been writings to my girls. Notes about our experiences, adventures, challenges, things we learn about and things we like. I am pretty sure that I can do that here too....and they can both have access to it.

Will this blog be here 30 years from now like my diaries will be? Can I back this up somewhere? I have some learning to do.

Anyway, for now I will make a go at it, although I am already feeling guilty about my neglected diary in my bed side table. ; )
